President Obama has recently said that the movement or use of chemical weapons in Syria would represent a 'red line' for the US, which could trigger a direct military intervention by US forces in the conflict between President Assad's regime and rebel forces of the Free Syrian Army.
In a way this is just restating previous warnings that the US government has made to Syria about the use of chemical weapons against their own people - however the inclusion of 'the movement' of chemical weapons, as well as their use, is highly significant. The BBC recently reported that the US government already has unconfirmed reports of chemical weapons being moved around the country. This means that Obama may just be waiting for confirmation of something he already knows is happening before launching a military assault on Assad's regime.
If so then the assertions coming from Turkish Ministers just over a week ago that the US would take a ‘more visible role‘ in Syria within weeks could prove to be suspiciously prescient. Given the history of the US and her allies going to war on concocted evidence of WMD’s (i.e. Iraq), you have to wonder whether this latest warning may just be setting the stage for an intervention which has already been pre-determined. - Obama's Red Line May Already Have Been Crossed
