Facebook has announced that the site will feature a new ad format in the near future. Basically these new ads will be similar to the current 'sponsored stories' format, but instead of being displayed only to people who have liked a page, or whose friend has liked a page, businesses will be able to buy a sponsored story within anyone's new feed.
Facebook recently launched onto the stock market as a publicly traded company - and has seen its share price crash since the launch. The main reason for this is because investors are worried that Facebook will not be able to 'monetize' (make money from) its huge number of users as successfully as it has claimed.
So is this latest move a rush job to try to reassure the markets that Facebook is taking monetization seriously? Will it end up annoying users and have to be dropped? Will people start spending less time on Facebook as the number of adverts increases?
I would love to hear whether you think these ads will annoy you or make you consider leaving Facebook.
